Interaction provided a submission to the Independent Review of the Australian Public Service recently, describing our thoughts on implementing a new style of Government.
Through our engagement with all levels across the APS, our observations of the APS working in and for the Australian Government for decades, analysis of research of governments overseas and discussions with senior APS staff in recent months, we have developed insights as to the future of the APS. We identify trends and the impact to capability and development of staff.
Our recommendations include:
- a strategic and cultural shift to capability development
- a focus on building leaders knowledge and experience across a diverse skill set
- implementation of a whole of Government L&D lifecycle and ROI mode
- linking L&D teams with strategy and procurement from the initial stage of a program
- development of incentives to retain graduates to increase diversity and innovation
- that the APS becomes the leader in workplace wellness by implementing a wellness strategy focused on building resilience and maintaining well-being.
