Multi-source or 360 Degree Feedback Instruments

360 degree feedback is a process whereby leaders and staff members can receive confidential, anonymous feedback from people they work with. This multi-source feedback overcomes the disadvantage of single person feedback. Feedback from multiple perspectives also has a sense of fairness about it and provides a high level of motivation to help us address our challenges.

Human Synergistics Life Styles Inventory
Human Synergistics Life Styles Inventory (LSI) identifies the underlying thoughts and motivations that guide an individual's behaviour. Often referred to as personal styles, management styles and leadership styles, these represent the essence of an individual's effectiveness.

The LSI is best undertaken by both the individual and a selected group of colleagues. In this way the individual can see how they rate themselves in terms of preferred leadership behaviours; as well as looking at how others view them. The debriefing of this tool can be done in a group or through individual one-on-one coaching.

LPP360 Leadership Profiles
Leadership Performance Profiles (LPP360) are feedback tools for the Australian Public Service and are based on or consistent with the Integrated Leadership System (ILS).

There are five profiles in the suite:
1. Team Leader Profile (TLP)
2. Executive Leader Profile (ELP)
3. Senior Leader Profile (SLP)
4. Emotional and Social Intelligence Profile (ESIP)
5. Strategic Intelligence Profile (SIP).

TLP, ELP and SLP

The first three are look-alike sister instruments based on the ILS and tailored to different APS levels:
• TLP is for APS 5 and 6 staff
• ELP is for EL staff
• SLP is for SES staff.

Each profile compares how the person being rated, their supervisor, colleagues and staff perceive the person's leadership behaviours against each capability in the ILS. At a personal level they provide individuals with a means of taking stock of how others think they are performing at work, compared with how they themselves think they are performing.

Staff receive a 40 page feedback report which includes helpful guidance on how an individual might modify his/her leadership behaviours and style. Feedback on their emotional intelligence quotient is also included. In addition, comparative norms for the person's level are provided enabling them to compare their performance against the APS more broadly.

Emotional and Social Intelligence Profile (ESIP)
The ESIP is a multi-rater 360 degree feedback profile which reports on our emotional and social intelligence as observed by self, supervisor and colleagues. It also provides specific practical information on how to address emotional and social intelligence development needs and how one might positively modify such behaviours so as to improve leadership effectiveness.

Underpinning the profile are a range of connected elements including intentions, emotions, skills and social factors that determine how well we know and master ourselves; understand our organisational, cultural, social and interpersonal context; and effectively function within the multiple layers of organisational life.

Strategic Intelligence Profile (SIP)
The SIP is a multi-rater 360 degree feedback profile which reports on our strategic intelligence as observed by self, supervisor and colleagues. It provides specific practical information on how to address our strategic intelligence development needs and how one might positively modify such behaviours so as to improve leadership effectiveness.
